How inventory works
You structure your fleet as locations, categories and objects. An object can be a pooled count, a specific serial-numbered item, or a bundle assembled from other objects. Availability everywhere else in the platform is derived from this, so there is no second stock list to keep in step.
The failure mode in rental is not running out of stock — it is believing you have stock you do not. An item in the workshop that still shows as available will get booked, and you find out on the morning the customer arrives.
Two things prevent that: scanning, so counts are captured rather than typed, and a hard link between condition and availability, so marking something damaged removes it from sale in the same action.

Can I scan items in and out?
Yes, barcode and QR. Scanning is what keeps stock accurate in a store where a lot of items move every day, because the count is captured rather than typed.
Can I track stock by size?
Yes. For wetsuits, skis, boots and similar, each size is its own stock line, because ten of the wrong size is the same as none.
What happens when something is being repaired?
Mark it damaged and it leaves availability immediately. It cannot be booked while it is in the workshop, and it returns to stock when you put it back.
