How inspection works
You define a checklist per object type, and staff work through it on a phone at handover and again at return, photographing condition as they go. Both sets attach to the booking. If something is wrong on return, you settle against the deposit hold from the same screen.
Every rental business has had the same argument: the customer says the mark was already there, you think it was not, and neither of you has anything but memory. Whoever is more stubborn wins, and you lose either the money or the customer.
A dated photograph taken before the object left ends that conversation in about ten seconds. This is the least glamorous feature in the platform and, for most rental businesses, the one that pays for itself first.
The inspection flow
- A checklist per object type, covering what actually matters for that object.
- Photographs at handover, establishing condition before the object leaves.
- Photographs at return, against the same checklist.
- Both sets stored against the booking, dated and attributable.
- Damage settled against the deposit hold from the inspection itself.
- Damaged items withdrawn from availability immediately, so they are not rebooked.
- Waivers and damage protection offered at booking rather than at the counter.
- Built to be used one-handed on a phone, beside the rack, not at a desk.
What inspection connects to
Frequently asked questions
How long does an inspection take?
For a bike, well under a minute — a few photographs against a short checklist. The flow is built for a phone at the rack, because that is where it actually happens.
Can I settle damage against the deposit?
Yes, from the inspection screen. The photographs from both ends of the hire attach to the settlement, so the customer can see the basis for the charge.
What happens to a damaged item?
Mark it damaged and it drops out of availability immediately, so it cannot be booked while it is waiting for repair. It comes back into stock when you say so.
Can I sell damage protection?
Yes, as an option at booking. Selling it online rather than at a busy counter both raises take-up and shortens handover.
Does the customer see the inspection?
Yes. The record is available in their portal, which heads off most disputes before they start — people argue less with a photograph they can see.
